2026 guide
There are hundreds of companies claiming to build apps in Australia. Most of them are resellers, offshore fronts, or generalist IT firms. This guide covers the ones actually worth considering for non-technical founders.
Last updated April 2026.
What you need to know
There are genuine Australian app development companies, and then there are companies that front as Australian while outsourcing everything offshore, or ones that are really IT services generalists who say yes to app work when it comes up. The list below is the former.
This is not a comprehensive directory. It is a curated view of companies we would recommend to a non-technical founder depending on their situation. We have left out companies we do not know well enough to endorse, and those we know well enough to not recommend.
Disclosure: Rebelled is on this list and Jarrod Macfarlane wrote it. That relationship is flagged in the relevant entry.
The companies
Gold Coast, QLD. Consumer apps. Non-technical founders.
Rebelled is an Australian app development company built specifically for non-technical founders building consumer-facing apps. Small team, senior involvement on every project, direct access throughout. The process covers product strategy and design through to development and post-launch growth coaching. Founded by Jarrod Macfarlane and Alex Crowley, both with deep experience in the Australian app market.
Strengths
Limitations
Melbourne, VIC. Consumer apps with a growth focus.
DreamWalk is a Melbourne-based agency known for consumer app development with attention to what happens after launch. They bring growth thinking — app store optimisation, retention, post-launch planning — into the build process. A relevant option for founders who want their agency thinking beyond just shipping the product.
Strengths
Limitations
Melbourne, VIC. Design-led apps for enterprise and startups.
Wave Digital has a strong reputation for design quality and UX-led development. They work across government, enterprise, and startup projects with a Melbourne base and national reach. A good choice when visual and UX quality is your highest priority.
Strengths
Limitations
Melbourne, VIC. Startup-focused mobile and web development.
Buzinga has focused on startups and SMBs since establishing in Melbourne. More approachable for earlier-stage founders than the larger enterprise agencies. Worth considering for founders who specifically want a Melbourne-based company with startup experience in their portfolio.
Strengths
Limitations
Melbourne, VIC. Consumer apps with growth focus.
DreamWalk builds consumer-facing mobile apps and incorporates growth thinking alongside development. App store optimisation and post-launch traction is part of their model, which makes them relevant for founders thinking beyond just shipping. Works nationally from a Melbourne base.
Strengths
Limitations
Melbourne, VIC. Enterprise mobile and digital transformation.
Outware is one of Australia's larger app development companies with deep enterprise credentials and experience with major Australian brands. The right fit for established organisations with complex digital product requirements, not for early-stage founders.

Making the call

Common questions
The main companies worth considering are Rebelled, DreamWalk, Wave Digital, Buzinga, and Outware Mobile. Each has a different focus and model. For non-technical founders building consumer apps, Rebelled is purpose-built for that use case.
Compare portfolio relevance, access to the actual team building your product, pricing model, and how they handle scope changes. Do not choose on company size alone. A smaller agency with senior involvement is often a better fit for first-time founders than a larger one where your project gets assigned to juniors.
Reputable Australian app companies typically charge $80,000 to $500,000+ for a full product build depending on scope, platform, and complexity. Quotes significantly under $50,000 for a full app usually involve offshore developers, junior teams, or scope that has been cut to the point where the product will not work as intended.
